Top seven industries using valves

Valve is a kind of widely used equipment, which can be found almost anywhere. It is active in streets, houses, power plants and paper mills, refineries and various infrastructure and industrial facilities.

Introduce the seven industries commonly used in valves and how they use valves:

1. Electric power industry

Many power plants use fossil fuels and high-speed turbines to generate electricity. Gate valves are preferred for on / off applications in power plants. Other valves, such as Y-type globe valves, are sometimes used.

High performance intelligent electrical ball valve is widely used in power industry.

Power plant applications subject piping and valves to tremendous pressure, so valves require robust materials and design to withstand multiple tests of cycling, temperature and pressure.

In addition to the main steam valves, there are many auxiliary pipelines in the power plant. These auxiliary piping consists of a variety of globe valves, butterfly valves, check valves, ball valves and gate valves.

2. Waterworks

Water plants require relatively low pressure levels and ambient temperatures.

Since the water temperature is normal temperature, rubber seals and elastomers that are not suitable for other places can be used. These types of materials can be used to seal and install water valves to prevent water leakage.

The pressure of valves in waterworks is usually much lower than 200 psi, so it is not necessary to design high pressure and wall thickness pressure. Unless valves are required at high pressure points in dams or long waterways, built-in water valves may be required to withstand pressures of about 300 psi.

3. Offshore industry

The pipeline system of offshore production facilities and oil drilling platforms contains a large number of valves. These valves are available in a variety of sizes to address all flow control challenges.

The key part of oil production facilities is the natural gas or oil recovery pipeline system. This system is not only used on platforms, its production systems are usually used at depths of 10000 feet or more.

On larger platforms, more processing of crude oil from wellhead is needed. These processes include the separation of gas (natural gas) from the fluid vapor and the separation of effluent from hydrocarbons.

These systems usually use ball and check valves and API 6D gate valves. API 6D valves are not suitable for applications with strict pipeline requirements, and are generally used in internal service pipelines on drilling vessels or platforms.

4. Wastewater treatment

Waste solids and fluids are collected in the wastewater pipeline and led to the sewage treatment plant. Sewage treatment plants use low-pressure pipes and valves. In many cases, the requirements for waste water valves are more relaxed than for clean water.

Check valve and iron gate are the most popular choice in wastewater treatment.

5. Oil and gas production

Many heavy-duty valves are used in gas wells and wells and their production facilities. Underground natural gas and oil have great pressure, oil and gas can be sprayed into the air 100 meters high.

The combination of valves and special fittings can withstand pressures above 10000 psi. This kind of pressure is rare on land and is common in deep-sea oil wells.

Valves used for wellhead equipment are subject to high temperature and high pressure. Valve piping combinations usually include special globe valves (called throttle valves) and gate valves. Special shut-off valves are used to regulate the flow from the well.

In addition to the wellhead, there are also facilities that require valves on natural gas and oil fields. This includes process equipment for pretreatment of natural gas or oil. These valves are usually carbon steel and of low grade.

6. Flow line

Many important valves are used in these pipelines: for example, emergency line stop valves. The emergency valve can isolate a section of pipe for maintenance or leakage.

There are also scattered facilities along the pipeline: This is where the pipeline is exposed from the ground, which is used to inspect and clean the production line. These stations contain multiple valves, usually ball or gate valves. The valves in the piping system must be fully open to allow the launching equipment to pass through.

7. Commercial buildings

There are a lot of pipelines in the commercial buildings. After all, every building needs water and electricity. For water, there must be a variety of piping systems to transport tap water, waste water, hot water and fire prevention facilities.

In addition, in order to make the fire protection system work normally, they must have enough pressure, and the type and category of the fire control assembly valve must be approved by the corresponding management agency before installation.
